Words
In Settings → Words, add the names, products and jargon you use: your project, its libraries, your tools, your teammates’ names. Words help the speech model spell them right.
- blabe keeps up to 500 Words and sends the top 50 with each dictation: pinned Words first, then the most recently added. The line under the list shows how many you’ve saved.
- Pin a Word to always send it first.
- A Word can’t contain a comma, so add each name on its own.
- If your Words are too large to send together, Settings says so. Your list is saved, and dictation uses the words that fit.
- blabe never adds a Word without asking you. After you copy a name, the blabe menu can offer to add it to Words.
Fixes
A fix tells blabe what to type when it hears something else. For example, when blabe hears “super base”, it types “Supabase”. Add one with Add Fix… in Settings → Words.
- Fixes match whole words, and they apply after AI cleanup too, so a cleaned-up dictation gets them.
- Fix Last Word… in the blabe menu lets you correct what blabe just pasted. blabe asks before it learns anything.
- Learn from my fixes, on by default, turns Fix Last Word on or off. With it off, your saved fixes still work and you can still add fixes by hand.
- Learn from my edits, on by default, offers to learn a fix when you correct a word within 30 seconds of a paste. Click Learn to keep it, or Not now and blabe won’t suggest that pair again. After Learn, Undo takes it back for 10 seconds. blabe never looks at password fields or password managers, and the text it reads stays on your computer (privacy). Turn it off in Settings → Words.
- You can keep up to 3,000 fixes.
Spelled-out letters
Say “E-N-G-I” and blabe types “ENGI”, whether the letters come back with hyphens, periods or spaces. It’s always on. A Word or a fix can give the result your preferred capitalization. blabe leaves normal words, numbers and web addresses alone. It skips code in backticks and lines it recognizes as code. Check commands before running them. When an acronym ends in I before another word, say it with hyphens to keep the I joined.
Snippets
A snippet is a short phrase that stands for longer text, like your email address, a reply you send a lot, or the instructions you give a coding agent before every review. For example, say “my email” and blabe types “name@example.com”.
- In Settings → Snippets, click Add Snippet…. Under When I say, put one phrase per line, up to 20. Under Type this, put the text, up to 4,000 characters. You can keep up to 200 snippets.
- Say the phrase on its own and blabe pastes the saved text exactly, in place of the whole dictation. Say it in a sentence and blabe swaps in the text where you said it: “Send it to my email.” becomes “Send it to name@example.com.”
- Matching ignores capitals and punctuation.
- Snippets run after AI cleanup, just before blabe pastes.
Export and import
Export… and Import… in Settings → Words move your Words and fixes as one file, named blabe words.json unless you choose another name. The same buttons in Settings → Snippets move your snippets, as blabe snippets.json. Use them to set up another computer or to keep a copy. Importing adds what’s new to what you have, up to the limits above.
On a Mac, blabe keeps them in dictionary.json and snippets.json in ~/Library/Application Support/com.montalvo.blabe/. On Windows, they’re in %APPDATA%\blabe. The Microsoft Store copy normally keeps them in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\blabe.blabe_1wdw4w3fm6gqy\LocalCache\Roaming\blabe, its own folder.
What leaves your computer
Only Words. As Settings puts it: “Words and fixes stay on this computer. Only the Words chosen for a dictation go with it, to help with spelling.” The top 50 travel with each dictation to blabe’s service, which passes them to Microsoft’s speech model and, when AI cleanup is on, to the cleanup model. Fixes and snippets never leave your computer: “Snippets stay on this computer and are never sent to blabe’s server.”
